Society for Historical Archaeology Conference 2015, Seattle (WA, USA)
Project Manager Cassandra Philippou gave a presentation covering the whole project from 2012 through to the end of 2014 that was co-written by Principal Investigator Vicki Richards, Lead Chief Investigator Prof. Peter Veth, and researchers Dr. Jennifer Rodrigues and Dr. Debra Shefi. The presentation was titled ‘The Australian Historic Shipwreck Preservation Project: in-situ preservation techniques for wooden shipwrecks’ and was a synopsis of the fieldwork on both Clarence and James Matthews, the associated research into in-situ preservation techniques and the development of policy guidelines. It was presented during the Advisory Council on Underwater Archaeology sessions of the Society for Historical Archaeology annual conference held in Seattle, Washington from 6 – 12 January 2015.

2nd Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Underwater Cultural Heritage
Principal Investigator Vicki Richards gave a presentation titled “The Australian Historic Shipwreck Preservation Project – In-situ preservation and long-term monitoring of the Clarence (1850) and James Matthews (1841) shipwreck sites” at the 2nd Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Underwater Cultural Heritage held in Honolulu, Hawaii from 12 – 16 May 2014. The paper was co-authored by Partner Investigator Dr. Ian MacLeod and Lead Chief Investigator Prof. Peter Veth.

Jon Carpenter from the Western Australian Museum presented a paper at APCONF2014 written by Jim Grehan, Jan Dols and himself on the sand barge system created for use on the James Matthews (1841), entitled “The construction of a simple sand dumping barge to aid reburial of a shipwreck site”.

Australian National University Master of Archaeological Science candidate Adele Zubrzycka presented a paper co-authored with AHSPP Chief Investigator Anthony Barham and ANU X-ray Diffraction Lab Manager Ulrike Troitzsch on the comparison and analysis of sediment samples taken from Clarence and the surround marine and nearby terrestrial environment entitled “Tracking environmental and historical footprints on Clarence: Comparative XRD analysis of clay-rich sediment samples from a 19th century wreck site in Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, Australia”.
